How to Reduce Your Anxiety

Anxiety is something the vast majority of us struggle with at some point in our lives. It’s so common that everyone seems to have their own idea of what will help with anxiety, and people seem to have no problem sharing that vocally. Unfortunately, not all of that information is valid or even safe! That’s why finding information on how to reduce your anxiety can often be like walking through a minefield. Diet

One of the healthiest and most natural ways that you can help with anxiety reduction is by amending your diet. There are so many products out there that have the ability to boost mood, reduce anxiety, and help support your body without the nasty side effects that many prescription anxiety medications tend to have.

  • Salmon (omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D)
  • Green tea (antioxidants, L-Theanine)

  • Dark chocolate (flavonoids)
  • Bananas (magnesium, tryptophan)
  • Citrus fruits (vitamin C, antioxidants)

Obviously, those are all ingredients that can be very easily incorporated into any diet. Making an effort to eat healthier foods that also can help with anxiety is one of the best ways you can boost your mood without having to remember to take a pill every day.

Supplements

If you’ve made steps toward changing your diet but still need help with anxiety, supplementation is another great, natural option.

Exercise isn’t only great for your body, it’s also great at reducing anxiety! 

Even just five minutes of vigorous exercise leads to the release of endorphins, the “feel good” chemicals. As endorphins flood the body, they help with anxiety as well as soothing physical pain. In addition, when you’re exercising, you’re forced to get out of your head and pay attention to your body. It basically forces you to break the cycle of anxiety. It really is win/win. 

In addition, exercise can also trigger the release of serotonin. Serotonin is more commonly known as the “happy” hormone, and high levels of serotonin in the brain can help combat the symptoms of anxiety. 

The best part is that, in addition to getting the positive anti-anxiety benefits of exercise after only five minutes, the exercise you do doesn’t have to always be vigorous. Walking, yoga, running, kickboxing, etc. all trigger the same responses, although they may take different amounts of time to kick in. You don’t have to be a track star or a powerlifter to enjoy the benefits.

For help with anxiety, you don’t have to turn to prescription medication. The help you’re looking for may be right in front of you! Focusing on changing up your diet, supplementing where necessary, and getting more exercise can sometimes be all you need to help boost your mood while also making positive physical changes.
